Stay HERE! A wonderfully appointed and well located cottage!
I stayed at the Gatehouse for a personal Thanksgiving retreat. It was the perfect Pacific NW setting for rest, rejuvenation and quiet writing. I especially enjoyed the large blue-green Eucalyptus tree blowing in the Autumn wind with views of Holmes Harbor filling up the floor-to-ceiling windows. The studio apartment is large and comfortable with a gas stove that makes the space cozy and warm during stormy weather. The cottage is centrally located in Freeland yet the space feels like a private escape. Thank you for sharing your beautiful Whidbey spot with me! Just lovely and a complete treat.
Outstanding Summer Retreat - Fourth of July Weekdend.
For those of you in a hurry, I'll cut to the chase. When we make it back to Whidbey, we’d stay here again in a heartbeat. Great deck overlooking the bay with a beautiful view. It has direct access to the water and It was a joy walking on the beach. Only a few miles from Freeland which has a nice grocery store and several great restaurants. Can't wait to get back.
Beautiful Property - perfect for a getaway
We loved staying at the Gatehouse for a long weekend. The view was gorgeous and the property was clean, well designed, and comfortable. We brought our toddler and she loved staring out the windows to the harbor below.
Had a lovely stay here, overlooking Holmes Harbor. The view was amazing. Got to watch a ship super structure put into the water...it was lit up like the 4th of July! Fantastic restaurant - Gordon's.
Beautiful gatehouse-quiet area-would definitely stay there again.
Gateway property stay
The Gatehouse is actually a large studio above a garage. It has been designed and furnished impeccably. It has high ceilings which make it seem even larger than it is. It has French doors that open up to the balcony. From the balcony you have a great view of Holmes Harbor. It does not have a full kitchen to cook meals. It has a small bar fridge and a microwave to heat food. We were there 4 nights. It was a great base from where to explore Whidbey. You can take a ferry from Whidbey to go to Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula as well as go north the Anacortes to take a ferry to the San Juan Islands. We really loved Whidbey Island. We look forward to returning soon.
We loved this place with very high ceilings and large doors and windows looking at the water. Very comfortable bed and nice bath. Plenty of room inside the living area. It is located on the "second row" behind the main house and it is on the second floor (stairs). Would have liked the balcony to be larger and with seats that were more comfortable. Also, there is a boat repair facility close by that generates noise during the day, so it isn't serenely quiet. You will need a car to go to Main Street for shops and restaurants. I would recommend it if you are staying in Freeland.
The Gatehouse was spacious, comfortable, clean, private - everything you want for a short getaway or a longer visit to Whidbey Island. We loved hanging out on the balcony, which provided a serene view of the water. The weather helped out by being perfect, but I could see this as a cozy spot during rainy season, too. Make sure you bring a sleep mask, though; there's not much to block the morning summer sun.
Great Studio Space
A lovely space over the garage. It was perfect for a week end get away.
